I would suggest Century 21 for shopping or a new concept that I just discovered this week is 'Rent the Runway' where you rent a designer dress, they send them in the post, you get to keep them for 4 days, you get a second size free too and it is $25 extra for a second style too they send all over the USA. they have a 'showroom' in NYC where you can book your 8 favourite dresses from the website and 3 jewellery pieces (they rent designer jewellery too) and have a stylist to try them on.

i had the stylist and showroom all to myself last monday lunchtime! There were also lots of other jewellery etc to try on there. it was really good and I am using them for a premiere i have to go to later this month. I'd rather this than buying a dress I won't wear again (and getting to wear a dress far more expensive than i would have bought). / Depends on whether your daughter is set on keeping the dress afterwards I guess. Lord & Taylor has a huge selection at all prices. Loehmann's the discount store is another possibility. Both will be mentioned constantly on previous threads. a few years ago my daughter bought a fab dress in Jersey gardens for her Irish debs,it cost $100. sorry cant remember the name of the shop, it was full of debs dresses at knock down prices. We have the best luck at Macy's here in KC.. maybe the one there will have some finds as well? We have gotten school dance dresses (semi-formal) for as little as $14.00! Macys, Lord & Taylor and Bloomingdales all give tourists a 10% if you register at customer service with proof you live elsewhere before shopping.
