Prom season is just around the corner, and this weekend, hundreds of high school girls in Berks County will have the chance to get a dress free of charge.This Sunday is the second annual "Belle of the Ball" at the Stokesay Castle in Lower Alscace Township from noon until 4 p.m."Belle of the Ball" was started by mother-daughter duo Ashley and Jennifer Calcagni, in hopes to help create magical prom memories for every girl in Berks County -- one dress at a time. "We think this year it's going to be even bigger and better than last year," said Ashley.The Calcagnis partner with National Cleaners and Yorgey's Fine Cleaning.This year, with the help of generous donors over several months, they collected more than 1,000 dresses."Any girl in Berks County with a valid high school I.D. can come to the event, she'll be able to pick out a dress," added Ashley.Attendees can also pick up accessories and get free hair and make-up consultations."We also have 30 raffles, so the girls will have an opportunity to win gift certificates," said Ashley.
